is getting the shiny 4K disc treatment

Paul McGann's outing as the Eighth Doctor was given short shrift when it was released in 1996. The television movie was a co-production with Universal Studios in the hope of catching a US and global audience, allowing the BBC's flagship science fiction show to be rebooted in a more spectacular fashion.

Sound familiar? The television movie presaged the show's eventual reboot under Russell T Davies years later, and in more ways than one.

In a prescient move, we reassessed the Eighth Doctor's main adventure only a week or so ago and now the BBC has announced that it will be getting a 4K spruce up and be available in the format soon. Hosting a tonne of new features and the original UK and US release versions, this will be the definitive release for this much-overlooked episode of the Time Lord's adventures.
